Website maintenance cost in Canada depends on what the provider is expected to own. A brochure site with occasional copy changes has a different support burden from an online store, membership site, or WordPress installation with custom integrations. Response time, update frequency, backups, testing, security review, and content work all change the quote.
That is why a responsible answer starts with scope instead of a universal monthly figure. This guide explains the variables behind monthly website support cost, what a care plan should include, and when hourly support may be the better arrangement. It does not publish a market average because a number without platform, risk, and service assumptions is more likely to confuse than help.
Monthly cost follows scope and risk
A provider needs to know the platform, number of sites, business purpose, traffic pattern, integrations, custom code, and frequency of requested changes. They also need to know what happens if the site is unavailable. A public information site and a store processing orders may use similar software but carry different consequences. My website maintenance service scopes the routine work, response expectations, and escalation path before a monthly quote is prepared.
- ●Platform, hosting arrangement, and number of websites.
- ●E-commerce, booking, membership, form, or CRM connections.
- ●Custom themes, code, plugins, and legacy dependencies.
- ●Content-edit frequency and who supplies final copy and assets.
- ●Expected response time for routine and urgent requests.
- ●Testing, backup, reporting, and recovery responsibilities.
A care plan should name the included work
Website care plan pricing is easier to compare when each proposal names the work and its limits. Routine platform updates, backups, restore checks, uptime review, form testing, broken-link checks, basic performance review, and a defined amount of content support may be included. The plan should also state what is excluded, such as a redesign, new application feature, major migration, accessibility remediation project, or emergency caused by an unsupported third-party service.
- ●Update schedule and whether testing occurs before release.
- ●Backup location, retention, and restore procedure.
- ●Monitoring, form checks, and how issues get reported.
- ●Included content edits and the request process.
- ●Urgent support definition and response window.
- ●Work that requires a separate estimate and approval.
Hourly support fits isolated changes
Hourly work can fit a stable site that needs an occasional approved edit and has an internal owner watching hosting, backups, updates, and forms. A website maintenance retainer fits better when requests recur, several people submit changes, the site connects to business systems, or somebody needs to notice problems before a client reports them. Compare who owns the checks between requests, not only the billing method. An unused monthly allowance is different from active monitoring and maintenance.
Platform complexity changes the quote
WordPress maintenance cost in Canada can vary because two WordPress sites may have little in common beyond the dashboard. Plugin count, theme age, custom code, hosting access, staging availability, payment features, and prior maintenance all affect the work. Shopify, Webflow, Kajabi, and other hosted platforms reduce some server tasks but can still require theme updates, app review, content changes, integration checks, and release testing. A quote should reflect the actual site rather than the platform name alone.
What affects the quote?
Compare the same scope: systems reviewed, records involved, workflows changed, testing, documentation and ongoing support. A headline hourly rate does not describe the total project cost. Ask whether the quote includes software subscriptions, paid add-ons and post-launch work, and confirm its currency. Rellatech's administrative and operations support starts from CAD $30 per hour. That is the base rate for admin and operations work, not a website price. Website maintenance plans, redesigns, migrations and other website projects are quoted separately, in Canadian dollars, according to the platform, condition, integrations and responsibilities involved. The pricing page explains how the starting rate and project quotes relate.
Compare responsibility and review it annually
Ask each provider to describe what they check without being prompted, what evidence you receive, what triggers a separate quote, and who responds when an update causes a problem. Confirm whether the proposal is in Canadian dollars and how applicable taxes are shown. Review the scope at least annually, and sooner after a redesign, platform migration, store launch, new integration, or major change in request volume. The website audit case study illustrates why maintenance decisions are stronger when they begin with an inventory of the site that exists.
