Teachable is great for hosting courses. Flodesk is great for sending email that actually looks like you sent it. They do not talk to each other natively, which is why I get asked about this integration almost every week.
This is the setup I actually use for clients, segmentation included.
The connection: Zapier in the middle
You will need a Zapier account (the free tier works for one or two Zaps; a paid tier if you want filters and paths).
The base Zap:
- ●Trigger: New Enrollment in Teachable
- ●Action: Create or Update Subscriber in Flodesk (email, first name)
- ●Action: Add Subscriber to Segment in Flodesk (the course-specific segment)
Segmentation: do this before you start
Inside Flodesk, create segments before you build the Zap. At minimum:
- ●One segment per paid course
- ●One segment for free leads or freebie downloads
- ●One segment for refunded or churned students
- ●One general 'all students' segment for broadcasts
Segments in Flodesk are how every workflow knows who to email. Get the segments right and the rest is easy.
Trigger workflows on course completion
If you are on Teachable Pro or higher, the 'Course Completed' trigger is gold. Use it to fire a Flodesk workflow that says congrats, asks for a testimonial, and pitches the next course. This single automation is usually the highest revenue per email I see in client accounts.
Handle refunds and churn
Build a second Zap. Trigger on 'New Cancellation' or 'New Refund' in Teachable. Action: remove the subscriber from the paid course segment and add them to your churn segment.
This protects your sender reputation. Refunded students who keep getting paid-customer emails are the ones who hit 'mark as spam'.
