Keap for Course Creators: A Practical 2026 Setup

The right way to run a Keap or Keap Max Classic account for an online course or membership business, including enrolment, drip, and churn campaigns.

Course platforms (Kajabi, Teachable, Thinkific) handle the course itself. They are not great CRMs. Most course creators end up running Keap or Keap Max Classic alongside their course platform to handle lead capture, nurture, enrolment, drip, and churn.

The setup that works for businesses doing six to seven figures in course revenue.

    The division of labour

    • Course platform: hosts video, quizzes, gated content, and the student login
    • Keap: holds the contact record, the campaigns, the tags, and the segmentation
    • Payment processor: Stripe, Thrivecart, or the course platform's built-in checkout
    • Zapier (or native integration): keeps the three in sync

The five campaigns every course creator needs in Keap

    • Lead nurture: free opt-in to first sales email, 7-14 emails over 21 days
    • Cart abandonment: payment started but not completed, 3 emails over 48 hours
    • Enrolment welcome: paid student, 5 emails over 14 days walking them into the course
    • Drip nudge: 'you haven't logged in for X days' re-engagement, triggered by Kajabi/Teachable inactivity
    • Churn save: subscription past due or cancelled, 2-3 emails with options to pause or downgrade

    Tagging conventions for course businesses

    • Source - [lead magnet name] (every opt-in gets one)
    • Product - [course name] (applied at enrolment)
    • Cohort - [YYYY-MM] (when the course runs in cohorts)
    • Lifecycle - Lead / Student / Alumni / Churned
    • Behaviour - Logged In Last 30 Days (refreshed by Zap)

If you only do one thing, get the 'Logged In Last 30 Days' tag working. Almost every churn save campaign that works is built on top of that one signal.

    Integration patterns by platform

    • Kajabi: native Keap integration works, but Zapier gives you finer control over which events apply which tags
    • Teachable: Zapier is the path; Teachable's native integrations are limited
    • Thinkific: Zapier or direct API; their webhook system is good if you have a developer
    • Stripe: connect via Zapier and tag by product or plan to keep churn workflows clean
